Health and Safety Update - Covid 19 (Coronavirus precautions and procedures)

March 12, 2020

UCP Charter Schools continues to monitor the Coronavirus with the goal to keep our children and staff safe.    As we begin the Spring Break, we wanted to provide you some additional information.

  1. During Spring Break, all campuses will be undergoing a thorough deep cleaning/disinfecting.

  2. We recognize that some of our students have additional health issues that may make them more susceptible to the virus.   If parents have concerns for these students due to these issues and want to keep them home for a period – these absences will be counted as “excused” absences.   Teachers should support students with work to do at home.

  3. UCP Charter Schools will follow the School District (where the school is located) plan for any closures for the first day.   After Day 1 – we may change our plan based on the unique needs of our schools

  4. Per CDC/Department of Health recommendations – we encourage team members who are going on a cruise or out of the county to a Level II/III country to self-quarantine themselves/not attend work for 14 days after they return.

  5. If you are exhibiting any of the symptoms of the virus – we encourage you to self-quarantine for 14 days.  Symptoms include fever (of 100.4 or more), cough, shortness of breath and severe illness.   This will not be counted as an unexcused absence/call out as long as you notify your supervisor.

  6. Although we want all of everyone to take appropriate safety precautions (i.e. washing hands frequently) – we also know that this is a stressful time for everyone.   Here is a resource for parents on talking to children about the virus: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/talking-with-children.html

  7. We do not anticipate this occurring at this time, but we are working on a plan to provide instruction and therapy remotely to students if we are required to close schools.    We are sending out a survey to parents on availability of internet/devices to use at home if this becomes needed.

  8. We will work with team members to be able to use any available Paid Time Off and also will consider advancing Paid Time Off for staff.

Please make sure you watch for communication on Facebook/Team E-News/UCP Website for the most up to date information.    We will remain diligent in following the latest information available on this important health issue and will communicate with team members as we receive new information.   Everyone please stay safe and try to enjoy Spring break.

Warm Regards,

Dr. Ilene Wilkins, CEO
